India has regained its global leadership in cardamom production after Guatemala’s yield dropped sharply due to pest infestations. Farmers in Kerala’s Idukki and Wayanad districts have reported higher productivity and profits supported by government incentives and new hybrid varieties.
Cardamom prices have surged to ₹420 per kilogram amid rising export demand. Experts predict that India’s export revenue from cardamom could increase by nearly 25% this year, strengthening its dominance in the global spice trade.
