திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் ஊத்துக்கோட்டை அருகே குளைமேனி பகுதியில் வீட்டில் தனியாக இருந்த பெண்ணை மர்ம நபர்கள் கொலை செய்துள்ளதால் பகுதி மக்கள் அதிர்ச்சியில் ஆழ்ந்துள்ளனர். சம்பவ இடத்தை ஆய்வு செய்த போலீசார், தங்க நகைகள் கொள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்டதாகவும், இது திட்டமிட்ட கொள்ளை–கொலைக்குச் சாட்சி எனவும் கூறுகின்றனர்.
மக்களின் உயிர் பாதுகாப்பு குறைவடைந்து வருவதால், உடைமைகளும் உயிரும் பாதுகாப்பில் இல்லை என்ற நிலைமை மக்கள் மத்தியில் அச்சத்தை அதிகரித்துள்ளது. குடும்பத்தினரின் அழுகுரலுடன், கொலையாளர் யாரென்று தெரியாமல் மக்கள் பதற்றத்தில் உள்ளனர்.
கடந்த சில மாதங்களாக திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டத்தில் தொடர்ச்சியாக நடைபெறும் வீட்டுக்குள் கொள்ளை சம்பவங்கள் மக்கள் பாதுகாப்பை கேள்விக்கு உள்ளாக்குகின்றன. போலீசார் சுற்றுவட்டார சிசிடிவி காட்சிகளைப் பகுப்பாய்வு செய்து, கொலையில் ஈடுபட்டவர்களை கண்டுபிடிக்க தீவிர விசாரணை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர்.
