A U.S. court in California has ordered Apple to pay a massive penalty of $634 million (approximately ₹5,600 crore). The ruling comes after allegations that Apple used patented blood-oxygen monitoring technology in its Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches without authorization.
Masimo, a major medical tech company, had filed the lawsuit claiming Apple infringed on its proprietary sensor technology. After extensive hearings, the court ruled in favor of Masimo, resulting in one of the largest penalties Apple has faced in recent years.
Industry experts say the decision could influence future smartwatch designs and raise broader questions about tech giants and patent compliance. Apple is expected to appeal the ruling soon.
