இந்தியாவில் தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறும் காவல் மரணங்களை உச்சநீதிமன்றம் கடுமையாக சாடியுள்ளது. போலீஸ் நிலையங்களில் உடனடியாக செயல்படும் சிசிடிவி கேமரங்கள் கட்டாயமாக இயங்க வேண்டும் என்றும், சம்பந்தப்பட்ட அதிகாரிகள் நேரடியாக பொறுப்பேற்க வேண்டுமெனவும் நீதிமன்றம் வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளது.
மத்திய அரசு மூன்று வாரங்களுக்குள் அறிக்கை சமர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டும் என உத்தரவிட்ட நிலையில், காவல் துறையில் நடைபெறும் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் குறித்து நீதிமன்றம் கடும் அதிருப்தி தெரிவித்துள்ளது. தடுப்பு நடவடிக்கைகள் உடனடியாக எடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் எனவும் உச்சநீதிமன்றம் வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளது.
The Supreme Court of India has strongly condemned the alarming rise in custodial deaths across the country. It stressed that CCTV cameras in all police stations must be fully functional at all times, and officers responsible for violations must face strict action without delay.
The court has directed the central government to submit a detailed report within three weeks, expressing deep concern over recurring human rights violations in custody. Immediate preventive measures and accountability systems should be enforced nationwide, the bench noted.
This landmark directive is expected to push states and law enforcement agencies toward transparency and humane policing practices in the coming weeks.
