டெல்டா மாவட்டங்களில் பல நாட்களாக தொடர்ந்த கனமழையால் 2.05 லட்சம் ஏக்கரில் உள்ள நெற்பயிர்கள் முழுமையாக அல்லது பகுதியளவில் சேதமடைந்துள்ளன. பெரும்பாலும் அறுவடைக்கு தயாராக இருந்த பயிர்கள் தண்ணீரில் முழ்கி விவசாயிகளை பெரும் நட்டத்தில் தள்ளியுள்ளது.
தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டத்தில் 15,000 ஏக்கர், நாகை மாவட்டத்தில் 60,000 ஏக்கர், திருவாரூர் பகுதியில் 75,000 ஏக்கர், மயிலாடுதுறை மாவட்டத்தில் 55,000 ஏக்கர் நெற்பயிர்கள் அதிகமாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
மழை காரணமாக நீர்நிலைகள் நிரம்பி ஓடுவதும், வடிகால் பாசன அமைப்புகள் பல இடங்களில் செயலிழந்ததும் விவசாய நாசத்துக்கு முக்கியக் காரணமாக உள்ளதாக விவசாயிகள் குற்றஞ்சாட்டுகின்றனர்.
