The Government of India has clarified that installing the Sanchar Saathi app is not mandatory for mobile users. The Sanchar Saathi initiative has been launched to help citizens track mobile connections linked to their identity and to prevent telecom fraud.
Through the Sanchar Saathi portal, users can check how many SIM cards are issued under their Aadhaar and report any unauthorized or suspicious numbers. This helps in reducing fake SIM usage and cybercrime.
Following misinformation circulating in early December 2025, the Department of Telecommunications stated that Sanchar Saathi is an optional service. Citizens are advised to rely only on official government updates and avoid misleading social media claims.
