2025 டிசம்பர் 4 அன்று, மதுரை மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள திருப்பரங்குன்றம் மலை பகுதியில் நடைபெறும் தீபத் திருவிழா தொடர்பாக எழுந்த சர்ச்சைக்கு தமிழக அரசு விளக்கம் அளித்துள்ளது. தீபம் ஏற்றுவதற்கு அனுமதி மறுக்கப்பட்டதாக கூறப்பட்ட குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை அரசு மறுத்துள்ளது.
அரசின் விளக்கப்படி, பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் நிர்வாக காரணங்களால் மட்டுமே நடைமுறைகள் பின்பற்றப்பட்டதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. குறிப்பாக மலை உச்சியில் நடைபெறும் நிகழ்வுகள் தொடர்பாக விதிமுறைகள் கடைபிடிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

On December 4, 2025, the Tamil Nadu government issued a clarification regarding the controversy surrounding the lamp-lighting festival at Tirupparankundram Hill in Madurai district. Allegations that permission was denied for lighting the ceremonial lamp were firmly rejected.
According to the government, all actions were taken purely on administrative and security grounds, and existing rules were followed. Authorities stated that events held at hilltop locations require strict adherence to safety norms.
The Madurai district administration and security agencies coordinated closely during the process, the government said. It also emphasized that public safety remains the top priority and that there was no discrimination based on religious grounds in the decision-making process.
