The court in Chennai has granted permission for a group of women workers to conduct an indefinite hunger strike over long-pending demands related to contract-based sanitation work. This decision allows the protesters to voice their concerns through peaceful demonstration.
However, to ensure public safety, the court has stipulated that only 50 participants may join the protest each day, and each person may take part for only one day. This is intended to prevent overcrowding and maintain order.
The court has also instructed authorities to provide daily medical assistance to the protestors and ensure adequate safety arrangements throughout the demonstration. This ruling helps maintain balance between public safety and the workers’ right to protest.
