செங்கல்பட்டு–ராமநாதபுரம் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் நடந்த பெண் மாணவி கொலை சம்பவங்கள் மக்களிடையே பெரும் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. பள்ளி–கல்லூரி மாணவிகளின் பாதுகாப்பு நடவடிக்கைகள் போதிய அளவில் இல்லை என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் மீண்டும் எழுந்துள்ளன.
பெண்களை குறிவைத்து நடைபெறும் வன்முறை சம்பவங்களை தடுக்க காவல்துறையினர் அதிக கண்காணிப்பில் ஈடுபட வேண்டும் என பொதுமக்கள் கோரிக்கை வைக்கின்றனர். பள்ளி செல்லும் மாணவிகளுக்கு காலை–மாலை பாதுகாப்பு ரோந்து வலுப்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் பெற்றோர்கள் வலியுறுத்துகின்றனர்.
