A new national study reveals that 447 out of India’s 749 districts — nearly 60% — remain above WHO PM2.5 limits all through the year. Northern, central and eastern regions are the most affected, with severe winter smog persisting even beyond the cold season.
Experts warn that prolonged exposure poses serious health threats including respiratory illnesses, heart complications, and eye irritation. Authorities have been urged to strengthen pollution control and increase public health safeguards.
