தமிழ்நாட்டில் காவல்துறையினரின் மீதான வன்முறை குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் அதிகரித்து வரும் நிலையில், இதற்கு முழுப் பொறுப்பு மு.க. ஸ்டாலின் அரசுக்கே என எதிர்க்கட்சிகள் குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளன. சட்டம் ஒழுங்கு சீர்குலைந்துள்ளதாகவும், காவல்துறை கட்டுப்பாட்டை இழந்துள்ளதாகவும் அரசியல் விமர்சனங்கள் வலுத்துள்ளன.
காவல்துறைக்கு எதிராக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்காமல், குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை மறைக்க அரசு முயல்வதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. 95 சதவீத காவலர்களுக்கு அரசின் ஆதரவு இருப்பதால், பொதுமக்கள் பாதுகாப்பு கேள்விக்குறியாகியுள்ளதாக சமூக ஆர்வலர்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.
