நீலகிரி மாவட்டம் குன்னூர் சிம்ஸ் பூங்காவிலுள்ள நர்சரியில் தோட்டக்கலைத்துறை சார்பில் முதன்முறையாக கருப்பு கேரட் சாகுபடி முயற்சி தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. விதை நட்டுதல் முதல் விளைச்சல் வரை பல்வேறு பரிசோதனைகள் நடத்தப்பட்டு, தற்போது விளைச்சல் வெற்றிகரமாக கிடைத்துள்ளதாக அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
டெல்லியில் இருந்து வரவழைக்கப்பட்ட சிறப்பு விதைகள் உயர்நிலை மலைப்பகுதிகளுக்கு பொருத்தமானவை என்பதும், நோய் எதிர்ப்பு திறன் அதிகமாக இருப்பதால் விவசாயிகள் இதை அதிகம் பயிரிடுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பு இருப்பதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.
உணவு, கேக், சூப் தயாரிப்பில் கருப்பு கேரட் தனிச்சுவையையும் அதிக ஊட்டச்சத்தையும் வழங்குவதால் மத்திய மற்றும் தெற்கு மாவட்டங்களில் இதற்கான தேவை உயர்ந்து வருவதாக நிபுணர்கள் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளனர்.
Black carrot cultivation has officially begun in the Coonoor Sims Park nursery in the Nilgiris district, marking a first-of-its-kind commercial trial by the horticulture department. Trials from seed sowing to harvest have shown promising results, officials said.
The special seeds, sourced from Delhi, are reported to adapt well to hill climates and possess strong disease resistance, making them suitable for future large-scale farming.
Experts note that black carrots are increasingly in demand for their high nutritional value and use in foods like salads, cakes, and soups, indicating potential market growth across several districts.
